Technical Industrial Placement Programme
Job Title: Technical Industrial Placement Student
Vacancy application deadline: Ongoing
Discipline: Business
Duration of placement: 7-13 months dependent upon placement requirements set by the University
Salary:£15,300, plus annual holiday, plus excellent training and development opportunities
The CSC Industrial Placement Programme application process comprises of:
- An online application form: Please make sure that you answer all questions fully and to the best of your ability – and ensure to check your spelling (you can copy and paste your answers into a Word document to spell check them). Remember: this is your first opportunity to impress CSC.
- Online testing process: You will be asked to complete a numerical test, and then a verbal test online. A numerical test is the first step in the process, and then if you are successful, you will also complete a verbal test.
- Telephone interview: If you are successful at the testing stage, you will be invited to attend a telephone interview. The interview will last approximately 45 minutes, so make sure that you are somewhere where you will not be disturbed.
- Assessment centre: If you are successful at telephone interview, you will be invited to a final assessment centre which will be held at the CSC location in Aldershot – you can take a virtual tour of the site.
The Opportunity:
We give our students the right start with a real job with real responsibilities. By spending your placement year at CSC, you will have the opportunity to gain experience working with some of the most talented people in the industry, and for some of our most exciting clients.
We have positions available in technical roles across numerous areas of the business. You will be working in multi-functional teams and will experience how a project works to a real deadline for a real client. You will also be able to work with a range of people that will support you during your placement (such as your peer group, project team members, buddy, manager, and HR representative).
In terms of the role itself, you could be working as a support analyst, or within our technical architecture teams, or as a test analyst. We will work with you at the assessment centre to help you understand which role will be the best fit for you within CSC. We are really keen to ensure that you find a placement which will fulfil, stimulate and challenge you during your time with us.
Education:
Potential interns must have a sound education record, and should be predicting a 2:1 degree.
Skills and Experience:
A basic knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Office is vital. Good communication skills are paramount. Some work experience or participation in meaningful extracurricular activities may be beneficial to your chosen field. That said, the most important skills to have are team working, problem solving and being customer focused – as well as having a passion for what you do. We believe that people who demonstrate those skills at our assessment centres can be taught anything else that we need them to know.
Eligibility:
In addition to the above educational requirements, interns must be eligible to work in the UK, will be subject to a security clearance, and, in some cases, (when working on projects for certain clients) will need to have a minimum of 5 years residency in the UK.
Our Industrial Placement Programme is popular, and offers will be made on a first come, first served basis, so early application is recommended to avoid disappointment. Roles will commence in Sept/Oct 2010. We look forward to seeing you then.
Our work for large companies and government organisations including Royal Mail has seen us get involved in a number of exciting projects. Take a look at our case studies to find out more.
